David Pitt-Watson is a leading thinker and practitioner in the field of responsible investment and business practice. He is the co-author of What They Do With Your Money, published by Yale University, which describes some of the fundamental problems of the finance industry, and how best they might be addressed.
Mr Pitt-Watson was Co-Founder, and former Chief Executive Officer of Hermes Focus Funds and Equity Ownership Service, which became the largest responsible investment group of any institutional fund manager in the world.
Throughout his career he has been deeply involved in policy, particularly in the field of corporate governance and financial market regulation. He has been a member of both government and other inquiries following the 2008 financial crisis. He has led numerous initiatives to improve the performance of the financial system. For example he chaired the UN Environment Programme’s Finance Initiative in the run up to the Paris Climate Conference. He led the Tomorrow’s Investor Programme for the Royal Society of Arts in the UK, which successfully lobbied for reform in the UK pension system.
A graduate of Oxford and Stanford Universities, he has been and Executive Fellow in Finance and London Business School, and Visiting Professor of Strategy at Cranfield. He he is an independent non-executive at KPMG and chairs the NESTA endowment fund.
