Chief Executive Officer, Doncasters Group
David Smoot became the Chief Executive Officer at Doncasters Group in December 2015 and has been the Chief Executive Officer of Dubai International Capital (DIC), Doncasters’ parent company, since December 2010. He has previously served as Chairman of Doncasters (from 2010-2011) and Almatis, the world’s largest specialty alumina company, and as Executive Vice Chairman of StandardAero, a leading global aircraft engine MRO company. During the past five years at DIC, Mr Smoot has spearheaded operational improvements and strategic acquisitions for the benefit of portfolio companies including Doncasters, Mauser, the global industrial packaging manufacturer, Almatis, and Standard Aero. He also led the successful financial restructurings of these businesses following the 2008 recession.
Prior to joining DIC in June 2008, Mr Smoot was a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley where he was a Co-Founder of Morgan Stanley Private Equity (MSPE), the firm’s third party investment vehicle. He led investments in and served on the Boards of McKechnie Aerospace, a leading aerospace components manufacturer, and Tops Markets, a New York-based supermarket chain. Prior to his role at MSPE, Mr Smoot was a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Department of Morgan Stanley covering global financial sponsors and industrial, energy, chemicals and technology companies.
He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Duke University and a Member of the New York Bar.
